AS WE ALL KNOW, THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN THE HOUSE DURING ONE OF OUR SHOWS IS THE DOCTOR. WITHOUT A DOCTOR, NO EVENT WOULD TAKE PLACE. THEREFORE, THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST ASSN. WOULD LIKE TO RECOGNIZE THE FOLLOWING TWO PHYSICIANS FOR THEIR DEDICATED SERVICE TO AMATEUR BOXING:

ANTOINE JOHNSON, M.D.
PHILLIP REILLY, M.D.

THESE TWO GENTLEMEN HAVE PROVIDED THIS ASSN. WITH EXCELLENT MEDICAL CARE TO HELP KEEP OUR BOXERS HEALTHY.

December 4th 2008

1.      Registrations - Effective 1 Jan 2009, the PNW Assn. will no longer conduct day-of-bout registrations at weigh-ins. This is being done to streamline the weigh-in procedure and halt time-consuming registrations. Options for registering athletes/coaches include:

A.    send to me via mail (works well for 1 to 4 registrations)

B.     hand to me at PNW Assn. monthly meeting

C.     hand to me at any show (no registrations will be done for that event)

D.    call me for special arrangements

2.      2009 Registrations – new athlete and non-athlete registration forms for 2009 are now in distribution.  These are the only forms that USA Boxing will accept. Please destroy all other versions.

3.      New e-mail address – I have a new computer and a new email address.  You can reach me at kojiki@bmi.net.  The old email address will still be active for 2 weeks.

4.       New Rulebook - the new rulebook is not yet available. The major revision will concern the number of rounds and length of each round.  Below is a guide published by USA boxing:

Elite men        (19-34)       ----        three 3-minute rounds

Elite women   (19-34)       ----        four   2-minute rounds

Youth boys     (17-18)       ----        four   2-minute rounds

Youth girls      (17-18)       ----        three 2-minute rounds

Junior boys     (15-16)       ----         three 2-minute rounds

Junior girls      (15-16)       ----        three 1 and ½-minute rounds

Ages 14 and below            ----         no change

5.      Maple Valley Show – 15 Nov private show consisted of 9 bouts (seven 4-rounders). Athletes from Oregon and Montana participated. Good job by Tony Rago at White Center PAL.

6.      Monthly meeting attendance – meetings alternate every other month between Tacoma Boys Club and a designated gym in the area (see schedule of events). This is being done to hopefully increase the number of participants. Everyone is welcome – if coaches cannot attend, send a responsible boxer. These meetings promote camaraderie and awareness of events on both the local and national scenes (first Monday of every month – 7:30 PM).
